(Other) Things that Go Bump

So, I'm sitting here, blogging away like the happy little gal I am....and I hear a weird...noise.

I poke my head into the hallway. Nothing there. No Boo creeping down the stairs. We don't have a cat.

I'm pretty sure we killed all the mice.

We have an ant problem in the kitchen, but I haven't seen them toting rattles or shakers, so I'm pretty confident its not them....

And weirder, I can't quite tell where the noise is coming from, when I realize that something is thumping against the window.

I don't know what is in the air here, but the bumblebees and flies I've seen buzzing around are ginormous. (That's a real word. Go look it up.)

Its....something. A bug. A giant bug, the size of a hummingbird, from the sound of the thumping, and the wings buzzing against the window pane.

And suddenly, I really, truly wish that:

1) I hadn't stayed up late watching "The Mist" while the Hubs was travelling last week

and

2) I didn't have an overactive imagination (who, me? Oh, go on...)

because all I keep picturing in my head are the giant bugs that broke through the supermarket window in the movie and attacked the helpless shoppers holed up there, painfully stinging them, their faces swelling up and then they died....

I looked for a picture online, so you could share my heebie-bejeebies, but I couldn't find one.
You can thank me later. (Cookies are good. Cookies always say "thanks").

I don't think I can come up with a clearer sign that it is time for me to turn off the lights in the room and go to bed!

Sandpile

If anyone is looking for the sand from the school playground - it is here on my hallway floor....

...and in Boo's shoes....and in Pea's underpants...and on the bathroom floor...

Seriously, you could do a softshoe dance in my hallway. (I know, I did...step, step, shuffle slide...)

Despite my ear-splitting "NOOOOOOOooooooooooo!" every single day after school as they take off their shoes in the middle of the hallway and turn them upside down. Every. Single. Day.

Sheesh.

I'm expecting a bill from the PTFA any day now, as apparently they paid a lot of money for all that sand.
I know I'm not the only parent with this problem. I'm just wondering how the teachers can keep those kids concentrating in the afternoon. I couldn't sit for long with the amount of sand that Pea carried home in her Princess underpants alone.

In the meantime...
I'll shuffle off to Buffalo. Or something like that.

Things that Go Bump

Last night, the Hubs and I sat having a drink and watching a movie. Typical Saturday night, right?

From somewhere in the house, we heard a "thump". The Hubs thought it sounded like a door closing. I went upstairs, poked my head in both rooms. No one was moving....I came back downstairs. "It sounded like a bedroom door", he insisted.

It was a quiet sound. Like a cat.

Except, we don't have a cat.
And while the house is old, my kids are noisy and irritating enough to drive away any ghosts.

So no ghost. A ghost would be cool though.

A few minutes later, Boo came downstairs. He had fallen out of bed.
(I SWEAR, there was a lump in the bed. I swear it was him. In bed. But, it WAS dark....)

The Hubs sends him back to bed.

30 minutes later, there is a second thump from upstairs.

Sighing, I put down my drink (hey, you wouldn't begrudge me this, now, would you?) and go back upstairs. Into Boo's room.

Where I trip over him.

On the floor.

Yup. He fell out of bed. Again. And he didn't wake up.
Until I turned on the hall light.

A bleary face looks up at me from the floor: "Mooooom - why did you turn on the light?"
And I'm like, "Dude, you are on the FLOOR."

Seriously. He FELL. Out of BED.
And didn't even wake up. If that's not a sign that the boy has a hard head, I don't know what is.

Meanwhile, he just blinks at me.

I put him back in bed. And threaten a bedrail.

(somewhere in the house, a "thump" resounds)

But I gotta go now.

I have to find the spare bedrail.
My boy just rolled out of bed.

Again.
