DAT-dat-dada-dada-dat-dat-DA-da

This weekend, we took the kids to their very first circus. We arrived early for the pre-circus activities down in the main ring. Sam was excited but hesitant - in the end, the crowds and noise overwhelmed him, and he was happy to get to our seats. Maddie, on the other hand, was wound up, and HAD to see the elephant close up. Fearless girl!

However, it was the popcorn that sent her completely over the top. Have you ever seen anyone more excited about popcorn?

The show was lots of fun, cheesey as I ever remember, but fun. The kids enjoyed the clowns (from a distance, the only way clowns can be enjoyed, because they are SCARY.) The motorcyclists in a cage were a particular hit, and Sam really liked the tigers. (They were in a big cage too. That made him quite happy!) We also offered the kids their first taste of cotton candy. Sam didn't want to try (hooray for me) and Maddie, of course, gobbled it down. She inherited Mommy & Daddy's sweet tooth, for sure.

Its really a gift to be able to experience things like this with our children - they bring back a perspective we lose from time to time, and the sheer excitement and awe in their eyes is simply wonderful to behold. With only one minor meltdown (hex to the marketing crone who thought it would be great to sell a family sized cotton candy in a cool big-top hat), we left full of sugar, popcorn, and fun memories.
